As many of you already may have noticed, I enjoy words. Whether they are alliterated, palindromical or they just sound good. But I am also linguistically retarded. Probably the main reason why I am a civil engineering student instead of starting my doctorate of the English language.

The last thing anyone wants to think about is data backup.  Yeah, it's boring and can be super complicated.  No one wants to deal with backups until that fateful day when your data is gone.  Just think, your photos, music, documents... all gone. I've seen it happen to others and had it happen to myself, not a fun experience.

Second Floor New Deakin had a fabulous floor outing on Friday 26th March. Both wings joined in the party as we headed off to Sophia's Pizza restaurant for an evening of good food and socialising. Everyone ate far too much and got to know their neighbours. Sam Cross hit on the waitress while Pedro rubbed chocolate cake in his face. Cheryl discovered a love for photography and Kevin told me his daily adventures of going kite shopping and watching Pirates.

The 2010 Deakin Hall MarioKart competition was held on Monday 19th August, with 16 brave residents putting their thumbs to the Wii remote in battle. After the group and knock-out stages, it came down to the wire, with Jonathon Hampshire and Derek Ong fighting it out in the final, Grand-Prix style. Ultimately, underdog Jonno came out on top to be crowned Deakin Hall MarioKart champion! Thanks to everyone who competed.

Cheers,

Mike
