Earlier in the Semester Celine, our Health and well being RA hosted a food seminar, teaching people about the simple and tasty ways in which you can get all of your required nutrition through healthy food. The seminar was a great success and people who attended also got to eat some amazing yummy food and also learn about safety and food hygiene to prevent nasty things like food poisoning whilst preparing their cooking.

Starting University and living at halls can be very fun, but also very distracting and at times it’s quite easy to forget why your actually here..... No, ironically the reason is not to party. To help curve this, there are now a number of Study groups within Deakin Hall up and running. Lists of what residents are studying and who is interested in social study are located (you guesses it) in the group study room on first floor Foyer, Old Deakin.

So far this year deakin has participated in the inter-halls soccer, tennis and we are currently in the Basketball tournament. We managed to make the grand final in soccer thanks mainly to our internationals and some ridiculous goal keeping.

While we could only make the semi finals in tennis, our girls did manage to beat Mannix 6 - 0. Finally, even though we have only just started the Basketball tournament, both our teams have made a good start and are looking forward to showing off our skills in the final.

Ambulance costs for one trip can range from A$600 to more than A$5500, if an air ambulance is necessary.

If you live in Victoria you can choose to pay an ambulance subscription to the Victorian Ambulance Service respectively that will cover you for ambulance services.

It is not compulsory to subscribe however if you don’t and you need to use an ambulance you will be responsible for the payment of the account. Being a member means you can call an ambulance without fear of the costs you may incur.

Its coming up to winter time again, and although all you crazy european exchange students (or Tasmanians for that matter, honorable mention to Davis Cochrane here) will profess that its ‘not even cold,‘ the rest of us sun loving creatures will beg to differ. Deakin is the only hall that still uses electric radiators for heating, which means that our green house gas emissions soar during winter, and as all of the halls compare and compete for the title of most environmentally conscious , it’s quite embarrassing really.....

As we have all learnt after the mass evacuation from deakin Hall in March, followed by the speedy arrival of two fire trucks, the new smoke detecters, particularly in New Deakin are extremely sensitive. These new smoke detecters are sensitive to not only smoke, but large amounts of steam and other gasses/particles in the air.

Well it's the first time this year I've been given the opportunity to write an article. I feel it could definitely feature in the Bristol stool chart.

I hope anyone that reads this has settled in nicely into halls life but as I am know an ancient Deakin resident it's all to common for myself.

Hello fellow Deakinites, I would like to formally introduce myself as the new Alf Editor. As the opening edition, I have found myself pondering the ways of which to write a really good ‘from the editor segment’, and have thus been asking myself ‘what do you want to read?‘ A piece of writing surrounding public interest can be quite daunting to write, as the interests of the public are found to be obviously diverse...

The Deakin Hall Table Tennis competition took place on Friday the 13th of August in the common room. Competition was fierce in the boys division with the final being a very close victory to Neighbour Dave over Brad. The girls division was dominated by Emily who won in record time. Best of luck to everyone in the Inter-Hall competition later this month.

 Hi Deakinites,

Welcome all new residents and returning residents to Semester 2! I hope everyone had a great few weeks of holidays! Myself, I spend 2 weeks in New Zealand travelling with contiki through the North and South Island! It was totally amazing, highlights including skydiving, canyon swing and Milford Sound! I would recommend a trip to NZ for all those internationals in Aus especially since it is so close!!

salsa
Monday, August 16th, 2010

Last Monday night, a select group of lucky deakinites participated in an entertaining hour of salsa
dancing, run by two demonstrators from The Salsa Foundation. After the guys politely asked the girls
to dance, much hilarity ensued as we all attempted to master the seemingly never-ending sequence
of steps, at what seemed like high speed. After getting some basics down, the fancy showoff spins

After Round 19, Adam King is in first position with 100 points, followed by Steve Northey with 98
points and Michael Fordyce also on 98 points. Only 3 rounds to go. [Maybe put up a copy of the
ladder like last time. That'd be cool].

We will be having a Grand Final party in the projector room on September 25th for those who are
sticking around for the Mid-semester break. Pies/soft drink will be provided and everyone will
