Chatterbox
An amazing night of cup cake decorating, speed dating, the 'Wah' game and in-depth conversations about culture and different cultural backgrounds and experiences put them all together and you get Chatterbox.
Over 40 Deakin Hall residents launched the Chatterbox program in style on Tuesday night in the Common Room.
The night kicked off with speed dating and getting to know new faces over deliciously decorated cupcakes and then moved into smaller group discussions where people introduced their 'date' to the group and learnt more about each other's varied lives, sharing amusing stories and finding the similarities and differences of life in places such as Hong Kong, the Netherlands, Malaysia and Australia, with two residents sharing experiences of living in more than 7 different countries.
The night finished up with body language games with everybody getting right into the 'Wah' game with Jess coming out the winter and Ellen proving she knows who's who in Deakin Hall.
The conclusion of the night was that we all have such diverse experiences and backgrounds and we must keep an open mind and dare to ask each other questions, while also discovering we could open up a cake decorating shop with the skill shown Tuesday night!
The next two Chatterbox topics will cover Australian living and the representation of different cultures in the media.
