I would like to start the year off by welcoming Robbie Ryan, El Presidente, of the Deakin Hall Society and his team and my fellow RA’s! It is sure to be a fantastic year of fun events.
I moved into Deakin in second semester 2008 and have enjoyed it all. From crazy Nott nights that get rather black as the night goes on to tummy aches come Sunday night after stuffing my face full of way too much sugar. Thank gosh for the token fruit gestures that pop up every now and then.
This year will be different- at least for me. There shall be a few less wild Nott nights given I am in my 4th year of a double Bachelor of Arts/Law degree and perhaps less sugar due to my ever increasing waistline- I’d like to actually do the top button of my jeans up this year.
How was the first week of uni for everyone? Mine was rather interesting. My first class of the year was Property Law and I was met with one of the craziest lectures so far (except for a few politics lectures because lets face it, they are all a little koo-koo). He was funny in an ‘I crack stupid jokes’ kind of way and has rather curly hair. Needless to say, the day started very well. The second class was bizarre. I have Australian Constitutional Law being taught by an American. Kind of messing with my head a little but funny all the same. Then the first day went south. Administrative law. Just the name is horrible but the class itself was excruciating. A supremely boring lecturer, who attempted jokes but did not get the approval of the class. He was constantly pausing waiting for laughter which never came and then it would be awkward as he begun the lecture again.
If anyone has some crazy lecturers of first week stories I would love to hear them and you can post comments through this website! Until then, I hope you enjoy the first edition of the Alf and the many stories to follow!
