Greetings readers from your Environmental Coordinator! Second semester has started off
swimmingly this year with regard to environmental awareness and conservation. We part-took
in our own MRS Earth Hour which saw many people from other Halls getting together for a live
concert, we had Green week and this month, the month of August we have had a challenge to face.

In August we are currently taking part in a Hall-wide competition to see who can reduce their
electricity usage by the highest percentage in the span of one month. A baseline – shown below-
was measured in May and the Hall (Deakin, Farrer, Howitt, Richardson or Roberts) with the largest
percentage/average decrease in electricity usage will win a prize. It is a free Dine-in, that is, a FREE
MEAL so we are looking forward to seeing who will be the most conscientious, so let’s win it for
Deakin and help our environment in the process. Turn off your lights when you leave the room,
keep those heaters off where ever possible and keep your laptops on sleep when not in use. It’s a
great program with a great incentive. See you around! Peace
